Alan Cumming (born 27 January 1965) is a Scottish actor, author, and activist best known for his roles as the master of ceremonies in Cabaret (on Broadway) and as Eli Gold in The Good Wife.

He came out as bisexual in 1998 and is active in various LGBT causes and organizations. He was married to actress Hilary Lyon for 8 years and is now married to artist Grant Shaffer. He has stated:

I see a worrying trend among LGBT people, that if you identify yourself in just one way, you close yourself off to other experiences. My sexuality has never been black and white; it’s always been gray. I’m with a man, but I haven’t closed myself off to the fact that I’m still sexually attracted to women.[1]
