Bara is a genre of Japanese anime and manga that depicts male/male romantic or sexual relationships.

Bara is written by and marketed to primarily gay men, and commonly focuses on large and muscular men of the sort commonly described as "Bears" in Western gay culture. It can be contrasted to some degree with yaoi, which also involves m/m homosexual relationships but is often written by and for heterosexual women and focuses on bishōnen, or "pretty boys".
