Genderqueer is a catch-all term for a person who does not conform to conventional binary gender distinctions.
For example, somebody who identifies as gender queer might also describe themselves as:
- having two or more genders (i.e. being bigender or pangender);
- having no gender (i.e. being agender);
- moving between genders or having a fluctuating gender identity (i.e. genderfluid); or
- being third gender, Two-Spirit, or other-gendered
Genderqueer people and people who are considered to be gender non-conforming often face high rates of bullying and harassment in school, in the workplace, and in society at large. The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network offers numerous resources for students, parents, and teachers to help fight bullying of gender non-conforming students in schools.
