How I Met Your Mother was a CBS comedy sitcom that aired for nine seasons beginning in 2005.

LGBT Representation

The series starred openly gay actor Neil Patrick Harris as womanizing Barney Stinson, who has a gay African American half-brother (James Stinson, played by Wayne Brady).

Although she was in a long-term heterosexual relationship in the show, Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan) expressed attraction to women on multiple occasions and stated at one point that one of her life goals was to have a lesbian relationship.

Actress Rachel Bilson appeared in four episodes (starting with "Girls Versus Suits") as a lesbian character.
