John Cho (born June 16, 1972) is a Korean-American actor best known for his roles as Harold Lee in the Harold & Kumar films and Hikaru Sulu in the Star Trek franchise, among many others. In July 2016, Cho broke the news that in the upcoming film Star Trek: Beyond, Sulu would become the first openly LGBT character in any Star Trek film or television series as a tribute to George Takei[1], who played Sulu in Star Trek: the Original Series and came out as gay in 2005.

Cho was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to the United States in 1978. In 2006, he married actress Kerri Higuchi, and the couple has two children.

He has been outspoken about racism and racial stereotypes in Hollywood.
