Moonlight is a 2016 film about a young black man growing up poor and gay in Miami.

Moonlight won the 2017 Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay, among a total of eight nominations, as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama and many other awards and nominations.

It was the first LGBT film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards and the first film with an all black cast to win Best Picture. The film's editor, Joi McMillon, became the first black woman to be nominated for an editing Oscar and Mahershala Ali became the first Muslim to win an acting Oscar for his role as Juan, a Cuban drug dealer who mentors the main character.
