Transgender

Transgender people experience a mismatch between their gender identity or gender expression and their assigned sex. Transgender is also sometimes used as an umbrella term that includes both trans men and trans women whose binary gender identity is the opposite of their assigned sex and genderqueer people whose identities are not exclusively masculine or feminine, but may identify instead as bigender, pangender, genderfluid, agender, or third gender.

Transgender people and other people who are considered to be gender non-conforming often face high rates of bullying and harassment in school, in the workplace, and in society at large. The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network offers numerous resources for students, parents, and teachers to help fight bullying of gender non-conforming students in schools.
